Travel Diaries - Nord du Morocco
My first official travel diary even though I owe you all about 3 (sorry!).
This time last month, I was soaking the sun, sipping on freshly squeezed orange juice while listening to Wizkid x Buju's Mood in Marrakech, Morocco. I was determined to curate an unforgettable birthday trip for my fiance - which was indeed a huge success! We started in Marrakech, then made a brief stop in Meknes, then to Fes, then to Fnideq, our final stop. About a 550 miles trip.
When planning a trip I always asked myself what am I trying to experience? In this case, I was planning for my fiance! We love quiet and reflective birthdays so I knew I wanted his birthday to be by the coast - like what would be a better setting? I also know my fiance is a history lover so why not indulge in 2 imperial cities and lastly, would it be me if there are no wild cards? We both love wine, so why not taste the popular vin gris from a respected source? Africa's first bullet train? - Yes, we will be onboard haha!
On today's post, I'll highlight on Marrakech. First thing, Marrakech vs Marrakesh - obviously Francais, pour moi! We stayed at Les Jardins de la Medina, in Kasbah. Our room was the Solarium and it was beyond magical! We had a private balcony (yup, room service please!) and a private big rooftop terrace. This hotel was well located, not too far from the new and old city. Lastly, it's a boutique hotel - it's honestly a different vibe.
We ate well at Amadine, La Trattoria, Bacha Coffee, explored Marrakesh via an exclusive sidecar drive (thanks Marrakech Insider), shopped at El Fenn and Moro Marrakech, got inspired at SOME Slow Concept Store, and even earned a certificate of excellence from La Maison Arabe - yup, I can cook some Morrocan dishes in my lovely tagine!
For those that like bullet points, our top experiences in Marrakech were:
Light Breakfast at Amadine - coffee x fresh pastry, yes please!
Coffee break at Bacha Coffee - honestly, the best coffee experience I've ever had
Tour de Marrakech via Marrakech Insider - apart from the sidecar looking badass, the history lesson was a great touch.
Drinks at El Fenn - hotel, food, bar, concept store.
Home staples from Moro Marrakech - their speculoos chocolate bites are something serious
Inspiration from SOME Slow Concept Store - big fan of concept stores.
Cooking Class at La Maison Arabe - my chicken tagine recipe is authentic, hunny!
