My HR Philosophy
Some tea so you can really understand what's being spilled.
So I'm the type to not have any new year resolutions but to have a general theme on something I'd want to starting focusing on. Over the past few years, I've had years focusing on forgiveness, fearlessness, self (aka self love), etc. This year is on relationships. Yup, I am focusing on meaningful and fulfilling relationships during a pandemic.
Recently (like last year), I thought why not do the same with my profession. And honestly, it was a harder activity that just left me blank.
So how did my HR philosophy come to life?
While going through a recruitment process this year, I was asked "what's your HR philosophy?" Because I have created a few HR related philosophies (on compensation and performance management) in the past, I was able to wing the answer with some substance. But when reflecting and discussing it with my forever partner, I realized this could be my true north (instead of a theme)! So here's my final draft of my HR philosophy.
My HR philosophy is to be the champion of:
heartily treating my diverse team members like adults (having those good and not-so-good conversations with facts and empathy while consistently rooting for them from hire to
retire),effortlessly assuming good intentions,
never outsourcing leadership (providing guidelines on how to manage team members but managers and team members need to have the sole responsibility in managing down or managing up,
3Rs: reiterating, remembering and reflecting that we all have a common goal to achieve.
Yours could be a short paragraph (mine started out as one) or actually any format you like.
p.s. My HR philosophy in 2014 would have been drastically different from what's presented above. So please mark a recurring annual date on your calendar to revisit it.
